God says in 1 Corinthians 12:27, "Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it." (NASB). In this same chapter, members of the church are compared to members of a human physical body. "And the eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you'; or again the head to the feet, 'I have no need of you.'" (1 Cor. 12:21. NASB). Now, let's ask ourselves a simple question; how important are our hands, eyes, and feet? Do we nourish and care for these members? Would we cut them off, pluck out our eyes as if they were of no value? As these are precious and important to our functioning body, we cherish them. In the same way, God desires us to view each member of the church as valuable and needed.

Another place that teaches the value of each member in the church is found in Ephesians 5:25-30. The main context in this passage is concerned with the responsible relationship of the husband towards his wife; which is not our lesson in this writing. However, the point is made clear how God values the church; "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she should be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body." (NASB).

It does not matter how much you have sinned in the past, how much of a mess you made in your life. It does not matter how inferior you may feel about yourself. These do not change the value of your soul in the eyes of God. God sent His Son from heaven to come to this earth, to live and die for you. We do not deserve this priceless gift. However, this was the cost to redeem valuable souls. Jesus said, "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? "For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:35-37 NASB). Jesus teaches your soul is worth more than the world, so are your brother and sister in Christ.

Let us develop a proper attitude towards our brethren. "That there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another." (1 Cor. 12:25. NASB).
